Long before anyone thought to call it a sector, there were people who took responsibility for the plight of strangers. The food pantry, the free clinic, the rescue, the shelter, the school, the orphanage — these are the old and important institutions that hold communities together.

The work of nonprofits is undoubtedly good and noble work. It is also undoubtedly hard work. Small teams stretched thin, a thousand hats to wear, much to do, with limited time and even less budget.
