The Giving Tuesday 2026 countdown checklist

Giving Tuesday 2026 is Tuesday, December 1. Your campaign may happen in one day, but the work behind it starts weeks earlier.

The following Giving Tuesday checklist gives your nonprofit a clear seven-week countdown. It covers the people, fundraising tools, content, donor outreach, testing, campaign-day tasks, and follow-up you need to prepare.

Use it alongside your full Giving Tuesday guide as a working checklist. Starting later than October 12? Begin with the current week and complete the most important unfinished tasks first.

7 weeks out: Build your team

Week of October 12

Start by deciding who will own each part of the campaign. Giving Tuesday also recommends involving staff, board members, volunteers, and other supporters who can help expand your reach.

  • Set your Giving Tuesday fundraising goal.
  • Decide what the money will support.
  • Choose a few campaign results to track, such as total donations, number of donors, new donors, or recurring gifts.
  • Assign owners for email, social media, donor relations, and tech support.
  • Decide who will monitor campaign progress on December 1.
  • Make a list of board members, staff, volunteers, and supporters to recruit as ambassadors.
  • Draft your matching-gift ask.
  • Identify two or three potential matching donors or corporate partners.

By the end of the week: Your goal, campaign roles, ambassador list, and matching-gift prospects should be clear.

6 weeks out: Secure your match

Week of October 19

Confirm the major pieces of the campaign before content production picks up.

  • Confirm your matching gift and the total amount.
  • Confirm when the match starts and ends.
  • Ask the donor if they are comfortable being named in campaign materials.
  • Ask if they are willing to share why they are giving.
  • Write a simple explanation of how the match works.
  • Map out your email calendar through December 3.
  • Map out your social calendar through December 3.
  • Gather photos and videos from past campaigns or programs.
  • Collect donor, volunteer, or community stories.
  • Choose the strongest stories to use during Giving Tuesday.

By the end of the week: Your match should be confirmed and your communication calendar should be mapped.

5 weeks out: Set up your fundraising tools

Week of October 26

Now build the donation experience your supporters will use.

  • Build your Giving Tuesday campaign page.
  • Add your campaign goal and a clear explanation of what donations will support.
  • Build or update your donation form.
  • Add suggested donation amounts with useful impact language.
  • Turn on Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other available mobile payment options.
  • Add a recurring giving option to checkout.
  • Set up peer-to-peer pages for ambassadors.
  • Add your logo, colors, photos, and campaign messaging.
  • Review your donor confirmation message and receipt.

Pro tip: BetterWorld supports Apple Pay and Google Pay on donation forms and several fundraising campaign types.

By the end of the week: A donor should be able to visit your campaign page and complete a gift from start to finish.

4 weeks out: Test everything

Week of November 2

Do not wait until December 1 to find a broken link or confusing donation step.

  • Make a real test donation on mobile.
  • Make a real test donation on desktop.
  • Check every email and campaign link.
  • Review your logo, colors, images, and campaign headline.
  • Check your impact statements and suggested gift amounts.
  • Test your recurring giving option.
  • Test mobile payment options.
  • Check your confirmation message and tax receipt.
  • Test ambassador or peer-to-peer pages.
  • Soft launch with your board and inner circle.
  • Ask testers what felt unclear or difficult.
  • Fix any problems before public promotion begins.

Pro tip: BetterWorld also recommends testing donation forms across devices and keeping the number of unnecessary form fields low.

By the end of the week: Your full donation experience should be ready for supporters.

3 weeks out: Start the buzz

Week of November 9

Start introducing the campaign before asking your full audience to give.

  • Tease the campaign in your newsletter.
  • Start mentioning Giving Tuesday on social media.
  • Share the need or project behind the campaign.
  • Publish an early impact story.
  • Give each ambassador a tracking or fundraising link.
  • Give ambassadors ready-to-use email and social copy.
  • Provide campaign graphics or photos they can share.
  • Challenge each ambassador to recruit one or two donors before launch day.
  • Give ambassadors a contact person for questions.

Pro tip: Giving Tuesday recommends giving ambassadors clear asks and easy-to-share campaign materials instead of simply asking them to “spread the word.”

By the end of the week: Your audience should know Giving Tuesday is coming and ambassadors should be ready to help.

2 weeks out: Lock in early gifts

Week of November 16

Early gifts can give your campaign visible progress before most donors arrive.

  • Ask board members and close supporters about making early gifts.
  • Secure pacesetting gifts so your progress bar is not at zero on launch morning.
  • Publish your first major impact story.
  • Write and schedule your launch-day email.
  • Write your campaign progress email.
  • Write your final-hours email.
  • Draft Giving Tuesday social posts.
  • Prepare your matching-gift announcement.
  • Prepare milestone messages that can be updated with live totals.

By the end of the week: Early support should be lined up and your main Giving Tuesday communications should be ready.
